sounds like your bushes and balljoints are on the way out

problem there is that HD has king pins, i think.

climb under and check everything out front and rear.

I think Wabbit has it in one but when was your HD made? Some of the later ones were built balljoint uisng the HR technology the older ones used the older EH kingpins. The crossover was about halfway I believe.

At the end of the day though it sounds like bushes but you should feel it while your driving. If the shocks not operating correctly push down on the offending corner of the car and release - it should stop bouncing instantly, if it goes up and down a couple of times you may need to adjust the shock.

its the balljoint front. . had a good look under and around the car this arvo.the back knock sounds like its in the door or just above the wheel arch.but i took out the seat and everything out of the boot and couldnt see or find anything that could be making the noise.took of the wheel couldnt see or feel anything. . really confusing.the shocks have got the thread coming out with the two nuts on it.how do i adjust them?i tryed turning them and the thread and both the nuts move. . ive had the car for a year and a half now.the rattley sound at the front only sounded alittle bit when i first got it and it hit really hard bumps.now its every bump. . some of the bushes do need replacing just havent got around to it.some of them are nolathane the rest just rubber

I can't quite picture it but it may the top nut may just be a locking nut? Maybe a spanner on both nuts an try and loosen of the top one might gain some ground.

On a semi unrelated note - my grandad told me about a bloke with an e-type jag that couldn't identify a rattle in the rear of the car. Long story short after lots of money spent it turned out when it was made a factory worker had put a coke bottle in the back in a cavity behind the rear quarter when it was assembled. The point being that the noise may be something like a chunk of steel come loose in the cavity where the fuel filler comes into the boot.

Or maybe bearings?

You've got me hooked now - better than TV.
