Default compression

Hey guys first post on this site, i've been reading a few of the other posts and have got some vauable info from them.

Anyways what things can i do to a motor to raise the compression?

I have a red 202 in my HJ and i'm converting it to run straight gas and won't to raise th compression up a bit to maybe around 10.1- 10.3, to help benefit from the high octane of gas.

Cheers Steve

If you really want to knock it up the 149 head has a smaller kidney shaped chamber that will boost your compression pretty nicely. But if your converting to gas and going to get some head work done you might as well get it shaved and knock it up that way (it's not expensive and a proffessional is doing it).

years ago !!!!!!!! in the days of super !!!
i had a 202 with flat tops and i put a milled 161 head on it and a set of extractors. Standard manifold and a 350 holley, in an LC torrie, when gas was 12c a litre...... ran like shit on Super.......rattled pinged and carried on........ But on gas !!!!! woh sweet as a nut, and grunt to boot ! then i tryed AVGAS.... and that was the end of the diffs..... and Gearboxes...... and oh yea more diffs....... and that was a standard cam too, if i remember. but you should have seen the look on faces of the GT and Pacer boys as they saw the tail lights of my old LC......pretty embaracing 0 - 140km was blistering with 3.55 it just ran out of legs. but streetlight drag race. it had to be something pretty serious in its day.

186 heads are 'L' cast, i.e large chamber (internally identical to a 202 head) with the difference being in the older pedestal mount rocker design. 186 heads do not alter 202 compression.

You need to use one of the 'S' cast heads, which are 161 and 173 and possibly 179 but i don't think so.

cheers
