i havnt played round with these b4, but i assume they're injected?
i'd go for the usuall cam, zaust package and put a modded throttle body on her... OR possibly a big mutha turbo |

turbo for shizzle, just pick up an xr6 turbs top end inc inlet exhaust manifolds and your off like a frog in a sock. or budget build, free up exhaust, chip and throt body as above mentioned will get it moving.
but bang for your buck. turbo is the go

it got rice spec pod, 2 inch zorst wit 1 muffler, 1 hotdog. Extractors and cam/chip next i thought. Does the ba topend bolt straight on? I read in sm mag a while ago about someone getting 200kw at the fly out of these aspirated. Turbo would be fun no doubt, but at the end of the day it still a work hack. It will need an lsd before i go to far methinks. thanks for your input

First of all t/b is not needed stock ones are big enough.
Ill tell ya what mods i have done to mine and how much it cost me Mine is a 1994 ED gli, 4.0l OHC 5speed manaul. First of all exhaust/extractors i ran a 15.7@141kmh which isnt that good. 60' was a terrible 2.4/2.5 because of the open centre diff. I then put a K&N air filter, Wade cam (a regrind cam which costs $122 www.wadecams.com) and a 3.45lsd in which i picked up for $300 bucks. OHC cams are piss easy to install and can be done in 1 hour. You also need to buy shims for your lifters because of the regrind cam. about $30 for lifters. I have since pulled a 14.80@146kmh, which is enough to be able to hold my own on the streets against 304's and 302's. ![]() So basically a 14.8 with under 1k worth of mods which is pretty decent imo for a 12 year old family sedan. I would say at the moment it has about 125rwkw. You can get bigger custom grind cams with a chip and i know of some people who have pulled over 170rwkw and running low 14's. OHC motor has shitloads of potential, there is a few running 13's N/A with a 5spd (convert to auto with big stall possible 12's) and there is one EB 5spd running 12.5 on nos. But the best thing is turbochargers mate. I plan to have mine turboed early next year. I plan on running about 10psi and should net a high - mid 12 when im done. One ea i know of in victoria runs 10.17 1/4 mile. On a stock motor with a garret gt35/40 (ba xr6t turbo), strogner valve springs, crow cam, stall and c4 i think. there is a video of it on fullboost.com |

Im not positive but i would say it does, but remember its twin cam/VCT so you would need to work your way around that! too much effort me htinks. If your after turbo kits check out www.snortperformance.com If you are good with tools you will need to budget about 4k for a low boost setup (approx 160rwkw). Add an extra 2k if u want more then 6psi. |

thanks wigga, next up though is a new clutch. it doesnt wanna chirp third anymore. Have you got a stock clutch in yours or heavy duty? Is it worth lightening the flywheel in these? Ive got a set of 3.50 gears out of my old xe (v8 borgwarner), do you know if these will these go on the later model centre? Thanks again for your advice

yeah i got a rpm race clutch the other day. My old clutch died. :P
You could lighten flywheel but i havent, i dont really need to haha I have no idea if the gears will fit sorry mate! I do know that you can get skyline or pintara diffs (3.9 or 4.11's for 50 bucks!) and they fit straight in. 3.9's are extremely good ratio for drags. In your XH ute you will most likely snag a 14 second 1/4 with just 3.9's and exhaust. Last edited by wigga; 08-06-2006 at 10:22 PM. |

the snort package is rather a good deal if you wasnt planning on going overboard..
although an xr6 turbo set up would be better as you could do more with it in the long run as far as i know the cost is a problem with a starting price of $1800 just for the ba xr6 turbo then put ancillaries on top it starts to get pricey..... the only real limitation is the size of one's wallet nizpro are doin ohc ford 6's punching out 1000hp but ya wont get much change out of 80 large for that motorhithead |
