Default Red 202 convert to unleaded?? Help?

Righty ho - here is a question from a super newbie

How do I change my red 202 from super to unleaded? I've been reading online and it said that a vk or vh? 202 would fit?

So would love some clarification on what to do...

Thanks heaps...

you can buy a charcoal canister that sits somewhere on the fuel line that you can buy to add the addidives by itself.

Not 100% but I don't think the blue or black motors heads were built for unleaded. So if you want to do the full conversion you will need to pull the head off.

I would suggest using a blue or black head on a red motor if you can though - they are a 12 port head and breathe a bit better - and can be used at a later date in a VK EFI converion

The hassled with using a new block is you will need to upgrade to pollution standards - better to keep a red block but change the head.

To do the head I beleive all you really need is to get the valves reseated.

But unless you have a HC head you could probably get away with using 91 ron with no hassles. Even if not it would probably cope with just using high octane unleaded. I find that additives are for peace of mind - I've never used them and my old 173 runs dreamy.

But if you can afford it getting head work should improve your performance no end - and your effeciency. Try looking at Oldholden.com and in their holdenpedia - the info in it is beyond compare.

Hope it helps

sorry mate but the above wont work unless the motor comes out. to fit a later head your red block will need to be A) drilled to suit (water jackets) and B) some of the old ones will need to be tapped and a grub screw fitted. All you needa do is take yr head to a head place and get them to fit Hardened seats, + a reco, will cost around the $400 mark.

Cheers for the info guys!
I think I'll pass on the reco head for the 6. I'd rather put the money towards the 308 conversion I am looking at doing.

Thanks heaps!!! I appreciate the help!
Anyone recommend anywhere in Canberra ACT to get work done?

all u need to do to change your head from super to unleaded is take it down to your local
reconditioner and get him to fit steel inserts in the valve seats and stainless valves this is usually a easy thing and only takes day or two with cost of round 200 to 300 dollars
