Default Running on 5 cylinders

Okay, as most of u know, my ute is shot lol, the rings are going its using shitloads of oil, and yeah its almost completely farked.

Anyway, number one cylinder isnt doing anything, and the spark it gets is fine, I am thinking this would either mean a major compression loss in cyl, no 1 or sum how its not getting fuel. what do u suggest it is, or how can i tell wat it is, as i need it for work, so i cant strip it down yet.

its a ford 4.1 crossflow.

Cheers, Daniel

what's the plug look like?

i've had a couple of pushrods go in my crossflows. they just snapped about an inch from the top. if your inlet one is gone, you might have the no fuel issue.

have you done a compression test? wet and dry

havnt done a compression test, i dont have the compression tester, might be the pushrod, cos this motor used to bend them, but after the new head went on they stayed ok, and i suppose there is no way to check it without opening her up

Plug was a little dirty, but i put a spare in there and fired her up, with the old one connected, and the old plug was sparking fine

ah. new head.

now. there are 2 types of pushrods.

i can't remember which is which, but some had a smaller diameter for the last inch or so. if you used the pushrods that were the same diameterall the way up,they would wear through on part of the head casting and snap.

you need to use either the pushrods to suit the original head or just the narrowed ones.
of course, this may not be your problem. but since your rocker gasket is leaking anyway, you might as well pull the rocker off and have a look.

i assume your rocker gasket is leaking. they always do

well the cover is off, and all rods seem to be fine, no loose tappets, and valves are opening and closing fine. the only thing i can think of is that there is no compression, I might go see if supercheap has a compression tester, and see if thats it.

Anything else you guys think it could be??

hmm

you might as well do a compression test. one of the hire places should be able to hire you a compression tester for bugger all if you don't want to buy one.

i'm pretty sure that you'll be pulling the head off, anyway.
you've covered fuel and spark, so compression is about all you've got left.

check the radiator for bubbles with the engine running and the cap off. also check the dipstick for foaming/water
