Default Alloytec engine problems

Howdy all,

I just bought a VY S-Pac II Ute, and it has an alloytec engine. Now on the weekend, I heard that the head gaskets on the alloytec engines tend to blow very easily and they have to be replaced. Apparently it costs around $1500 to replace them.

How true is this?

You sure it has an alloytec? The Alloytec didn't come out until the VZ range. The VY had the ecotec V6.

The pic is a VZ, so what is it? BTW, I havn'r heard anything about Alloytec probs yet, although most brand new motors have some hassles that pop up early on.

Well, when i bought it, the dealer told me it has an alloytec engine it, i assumed they were stock on the VY's and up. That or the previous owner must have dropped an alloytec engine in it.

In that case, if its been dropped in by the pevious owner - he would know that the alloytec's have shitty head gaskets and probably would have replaced them right?

Otherwise you'll have a motor that looks similar to this, minus the air filter.

And like Van said, haven't heard anything about gaskets and the alloytec, except that they're a useless motor.

No, I think you will find that not all VZs have flood lights, and that is a VZ front. The grill is larger than a VY and the headlights don't have the small parker that the lower model VYs had. If it's a VY, then it has a VZ front on it. The shape of the bumper is slightly different to a VY as well. I would bet that if it has an Alloytec then it is a VZ, check your compliance plate.

It is a VY, and the engine is an alloytec - 3.6L engine. I just popped the hood at lunchtime, and yeh, it is an alloytec. I am assuming that the engine was dropped in, I know that the previous owner also owned a modifications shop, so i wouldn't be suprised if he had.

Just don't see the point of putting an alloytec in to replace the ecotec..................
