Angry Ef XR 6 Probs

Hi all, Wondering if anyone can help me?
I have some serious power issues when the engine is cold. When I take off it seem that there is no power or the trans is stuck in 3rd gear. If you hold the throttle it will be sluggish for about 5 seconds then take off like a rocket.I have a couple of codes as well. 214 camshaft position sensor (CMP) fault and a 634 Gear position sensor fault. I dont know if any of these faults are relevant? I have had the trans checked by a mechanic and he gave it a service but it didnt change anything.
I was going to have a look at the CMP but my manual tells me to take it to a dealer as you need special equipment. Is this true?
Any feedback would be much appreciated.
Thanks

OK first it's crankshaft postion sensor, and you can have a look at it. The harmonic balencers have a fault in the EF Falcs, they separate the outer ring from the inner and the outer slides back towards the engine chewing out, you guessed it, the Crankshalft position sensor. You should be able to see if the balancer has separated. As far as the gear position sensor gos, well it sounds like that may well be the cause of your car taking off in 3rd. I'd get that checked by a good auto place.
