Default vh starting problems

HI guys and girls

I have an odd problem with the vh stright 6
After driving around and turning the car off it will not turn over again, general it happens after longer type trips. There is still power the starter just will not turn over.
Is this a problem anyone else has encountered?

Had the same problem myself. Make sure all the electrical connections are very clean and tight. Take them off and give them a good clean with a wire brush or wet and dry. Your wiring could be suffering from voltage drop due to age. Have a relay inserted in the circuit so you get full volts to the starter. I had a Mazda about 20 years ago that did the same but all I got was the solenoid click. Had a relay put in and no problems after that. Maybe a bit of a heat shield between the extractors and starter may help. Do you need instructions for the relay? Let me know and will detail how.

Will post the instructions tomorrow after I have a look at the relay on the J. I can never remember what number goes to what off the relay. I know this one works so will write it down and forward the details to you. It's only 4 wires and a few connectors but makes sure you get the full battery voltage.

Here they are.

Get yourself an ordinary run of the mill 30 amp relay. I try to use the Bosch. You will need to remove the push on wire that goes the the solenoid on your starter. It comes from the switch and should be purple.
Connect that wire to terminal 86 on the relay.
Terminal 30 goes to the battery positive. Make sure its a good one. I use heavier wire for this and take it straight to the battery terminal.
Terminal 85 goes to earth.
Terminal 87 goes to the starter solenoid.

That's it. Hope it solves your problem.
