Default Standard Fuel Injection to EFI?

A friend of mine works at a merc wrecker so he knows a fair bit about them all, and i asked him if its worth converting my multi point injection system to an EFI system, he said you might be able to get about 20-25kw gain from doing so. Would anyone have an ideas on what needs to be done for a conversion like this, and if those power figures sound right from converting to EFI?

Buddy, multi-point injection is one form of EFI. You must be referring to TBI, rather than EFI. TBI stands for THROTTLE BODY INJECTION.

Multi-Point Injection means your engine has one fuel injector per cylinder (ie: 6 injectors if it is a 6 banger), and the fuel is not mixed into the air intake charge until it is entering the combustion chamber.
Throttle Body Injection is where there is just one or two injectors pumping the fuel into the air intake charge at the point at which it enters the intake manifold (ie: the throttle body).

You should speak to fuel injection specialists in Melbourne.

yeah im not too sure, the earlier shape 280's put out more power than my shape 280, and i was told it was that they have EFI, as opposed to mine not having EFI

So what you are in fact saying is that you have a carburettored engine?
EFI craps on carbs for economy.

what he is saying is that he has a manual fuel injected motor,in other words,a engine with a single throttle body manifold and a throttle body,and has no electric to it,so he's saying is................
E + FI = EFI (E= electric computer managment)
EFI=more power
more power=more fun.
not that hard to know man.

It can be done but it wouldn't be easy or cheap. The best way would be to pick up all the gear from a Merc with the same engine but has EFI. You could set up a system yourself using aftermarket parts that would be better but it would cost heaps more. Maybe you could consider a V8 with EFI? I have a mate with a 450SEL that has the mechanical injection like yours, and it goes well. Dunno if that V8 would fit yours, but if it would you can buy whole cars for a couple of grand, and they sound great with a good exhaust.
