you can put the red head on your block as long as it's 9 port. otherwise you're missing a port

the red heads have different coolant passages. you will need to plug the small 1/4" holes and drill some larger 1/2" ? holes.

to plug the smaller holes, just tap them and put a grub screw in each sealed with stag or something.
mark out the other holes using a head gasket as a template.

that's all assuming you want to run the black coolant passages. they do keep the hot spot away from the rear of the head.

you could plug the larger holes in the block and drill it for the smaller holes

that's my surname

you could get a red block, but you'll miss out on the improved cooling of the black block and head. having said that, i haven't heard of anyone who's had hot spot troubles in the red heads who actually looked after their motor. i.e change the coolant occasionally.

don't forget to use the rods from your black block, though.
they're the same as starfire rods, but worth less. i believe they're the same part number

i have a 186 in my torrie at the moment and i researched doing the same mod.

i've since gotten rid of the dirty, filthy non V8 stuff. ( kinda like a born again christian )

i had a black head to go on my 186 red block. using black motor rods and pistons and decking 50 thou off the block gives a 8.5:1 compression.
i was going to use a sc14 blower and VK injection
also had a steel crank to go into the motor.
there's one very happy torrie owner in mackay who scored it all for nothing when i had a clean up

lol im the opposite, i have always been a v8 commodore boy, now all my v8 stuff is being sold or has been stolen. inline sixes are my flavor of the month. thanks to richard branson and my new credit card i should be flying around with a quick six soon, just got to get A RED block, crank and su`s.

what you think of the plans. 202 stroked to 235
30/70 cam. bay $30
elec dizzy off my black motor
triple su`s
polished head

thinking of welding up the old banjo diff, and just running the 3 speed auto till it dies

that sounds the goods. i like the 235 stroker kits

remind me again why you want to go with a red head. i assume you've already got the head you want to use.
blue/black heads will outflow a yella terra with a little clean up only. they have a better port arrangement with the 12 port configuration and the ports flow more. they have the same size exhaust valve and larger inlets than what's commonly called stage 3 yella terra.

wanted to put tripples on it. i didnt know the black heads were any good, and assumed that a tripple su ported red head setup would kick ass over a black head witha varijet. i know these varijets can go pretty good, i think you might of changed my mind wabbit, and saved me some cash too. nxt time im in rockhampton ill buy you a tooheys new. thx mate

i was thinking more of a set of triples on a black head. you'll still save money compared to the cost of getting a red head to flow what a 12 port will

you'll be a bit hard pressed to find any toohey's new in rockvegas
i was drinking that when i worked in new south for a few months
POT OF FOUREX is a hell of a lot easier to say than A MIDDY OF TOOHEY'S NEWIES after a dozen schooies

you can buy manifolds to suit the 12 port heads to suit either triple sus or webers/dellortos
