Default Help for VS Ute MODS!!!

G'day, firstly i need to tell you all i dont know much about moding cars, thats why im hoping some of you guys on here who know what ur talkin about mite be able to help me!! I currently dirve a 1997 VS V6 Ute (s pack) and im looking to get a decent bodykit for it, now i have heard that you may be able to put VT bodykits on a VS, and i just wanna know if this is true or not? My old man is paying for it to get work done on it at the moment, it is been lowered 2 inches and gettin grouse suspension, but from now on im on my own. I wanna try and increase its performance because the V6 is pretty weak, i only wanna spend bout 1.5K so if anyone can recommend some mods that will increase power wit that budget that would be much appreciated!! Please do explain it for simpler people like me, thanks!!

The bodykit im looking to put on my car is at this link:

hey vsute18 welcome to aussieV8.

firstly keep it VS kits on a VS, VT kits will just look odd..
maybe change the gear ratio's in the diff or maybe even zorst & CAI!

plenty of options.. do you plan to do future mods?

I'm not sure about future mods, i sorta dont wanna go over the top, although, im sure you guys would think there is no such thing, i just wanna make it a good car, i dont necessarily want it to be the best!! There has already been a fair bit spent on it, its got pretty crazy 19x9" chrome wheels, a full paint job with my old mans company colours down the side, just those 2 things cost around 4K. I sell car audio equipment on eBay so i have been able to put a massive stereo in it at not a great cost, the retail for it would be about $6K+, but it cost me 2.5K cause i buy direct from wholesalers in the US. The system is: Sony CDX-M9905X headunit, Infinity KAPPA PERFECT6.1 components, Infinity KAPPA63.5I 6.5", 2 x KAPPA PERFECT12DVQ subs, powered by 2 x MTX Thunder1501D sub amps and 1 x Thunder1004 amp. Its a fair bit to stick in a ute and it took a fair amount of effort and we are still working on sealing up the car as much as possible to stop vibrations, but everytime we fix something another thing starts moving!!! I'll chuck some photos up when i get my camera working, the battery and charger are dead at the moment for some reason!!

Thanks once again for all your help guys, the more recommendations the better and ill try and work out wat to from what you all tell me!!

Hey buddy. If a bodykit is what you want, i suggest going a vs kit like mark said. You can attain them from The Brock Shop at underwood if you live in SE QLD.

i reckon no bodykit mate. Nothing looks better than a nice ute sitting on some big wheels dumped on its arse. Keep it simple, bodykits do nothing but make it look complicated.............but that's just my opinion. If anything, just get the front lip extension and a rear filler bar. Keeping it simple is the way.

check out my cardomain page for some pictures

yeh sure, if ya want any car audio equipment, let me know what models your interested in and 90% of the time my price will be well below retail price!!! Just a note i only deal in quality car audio products, anything with a retail price of $300+ min, it shits me when people dont put quality systems in their car thats why!!!

if your vs is pre ecotec there is a restrictor between the throttle body and the intake manifold, remove this for better throttle response and a bit more grunt, when you start the car for the first time after this mod you will have to rev the engine to 3000rpm for about 8 seconds to reset the computer or else it will idle all over the place.

a diff ratio change will make a pretty noticible difference, i reccomend 3.45:1 if you do alot of freeway driving otherwise go for 3.79:1 for that back in the seat feel.

Yeh this is my only car, im only 18 so i cant afford two cars!! Just thought i'd let u all know i have lowered the ute 2.5", new Pedders SportsRyder suspension front + back, sway bar + panhard rod and its now got a powerchip, so its a massive 160kw's now, lol, it needs much more power thats for sure!! I'm sorry but i dont understand much about gear ratios, what the difference between the two you suggested, all i know is that i want a longer first gear!!
