Default Swapping sumps.

Hi, i'm swapping my rolla for a hk ute with a 161 and crunchbox, but i also get a 202 and synchro 3 speed with it. The 161 is rooted so can i use the sump and pick up from the 161 on the 202? And will the linkages for the crunchbox suit the hq 3 speed?. Any help appreciated.

yep and not sure.

sump and pickup will go straifght on the 202.

linkages might not fit, but any wrecker would be glad to get rid of the ones they've got

Agreed, block and the majority of parts are the same so no problem with the sump and pickup. Not sure on the box though.

Ive never heard anyone describe a floorshift as a crunchbox, my moneys on it bein a column shift mate, especially in a 161 HK ute.

No the crash box linkage will not fit on to the all synchro box and neither will the tailshaft, the speedo cable, the gearbox crossmember, the clutch plate, the bellhousing or the clutch slave cylinder.
To fit a all synchro box in to a HK which was factory fitted with a crash box you will need a HK auto gearbox crossmember and mount and a tailshaft from a HK 6cyl auto or a HT/G 3spd all synchro. A speedo cable from a HT/G all synchro or auto vehicle.
If you use the all synchro bellhousing you then need to buy a adapter slave cylinder and bracket and also a different clutch hose.
Then you need a all synchro clutch plate.
Then you will need to either fit a floor shift or fit a HT/G steering column and linkages.
I think thats all of it from memory

Holy crap! Ok so i will just bolt the 202 up to the crash box then, unless you tell me this wont work. Yes it's column shift, if i wanted to swap columns i'd make it auto. Could be on the cards yet.....

Thanks for the info guys.

If you use the original crash clutch and bellhousing it will all bolt up fine to the 202.
late edit from memory you may also have to change the spigot bearing too.
I will check this at work tomorrow and repost the outcome as I do not have a crash input
shaft at home anymore to check against.

I have checked and its the same spigot for a crash box and a all synchro box.
I must have been thinking about the celica spigot which has a smaller id.
It would be less work to swap to auto for sure but you will still need to get a HG column and linkages if you intend to run a trimatic with the column shift.
You will also need a auto peddle and the speedo cable, gearbox crossmember and tail shaft I mentioned above and also a vac outlet for the manifold for the vac modulator.
Also you will need the auto spigot as well.
The next problem you will have to sort out is the kickdown side of things.
If you get HG trimatic it will have a cable kick down and you will need to get a auto accelerator cross shaft and associated brackets etc.
If you use a HQ on trimatic they are a electric kickdown and you will have to make up some sort of set up to make that work.

Unfortunately the HK is the hardest one of the HK-G series. If you managed to pick up a complete set up from a HG it is then just a bolt up job to swap it all over.
I have just had a thought though, that you will need a auto dash fascia and selector insert as well and I have a sneaking suspicion from memory that the HK and HT-G selector inserts are a different shape.
Not 100% sure on that though, I am working on memory from about 15 years ago here.
