Default VK commy diffs

Last week, I pulled my finger out and got my VK registered.

It's got the Borg Warner 3.23 diff in it, and I was looking at putting a 3.55 in the arse to bring the cruising RPM up to an acceptable level for the poor little 202.

does the rear tailshaft section have to be swapped over to fit a Salisbury to the old girl, or is it the same as the Borg Warner one?

Reason for the change is that I have 205/65*15 tyres and Borg Warner 5 speed. The cruising revs@100kph are 2000rpm. It's just not enough for the 6.
seeing that I only put these tyres on last week and they only have 2000k on them, swapping tyres isn't really my favourite option. and the 3.55 give me the cruising revs that the engine wants

silliy question, could you not make an adapter from flange to uni and slip it between the diff and shaft?

shaft will be too long

the Salisbury pinion yoke is recessed back for the uni joint trunnion
to fit into ...and the u bolts go and hold it in place

the BW flange is flat... and so the tailshaft used in a BW setup
has a special endhousing which the uni sits in (bit like a g'box yoke)
and which then bolts to the diff flange

not impossible, welding maching and balancing would all be needed
.. a shaft swap is easier

I have a VC commo sitting here with a small salisbury and tailshaft if you are interested. you could probably find something more local to you I guess.

I've got to go to Townsville for a wedding in 4 weeks, but that might be worth a trip, Ash

What ratio is it?

I can see how that would be confusing.

what I meant was that I have to go to Townsville in 4 weeks, So I would not be available to go down that way for a little while.

But it might be worth a trip to the state of Brisbane afterwards.
I've got to learn to enunciate my words more better

is that a little clearer?

if you wish for me to check the ratio I will and I will let you know.
Ash.

nah, you're closer to me than Clownsville is, anyway

Check that ratio and name your price and I might organise a weekend trip soon.

is the diff a 78 series borgy wabbit? if it is, why dont you get a set of 3.45 gears out of a vl six? the ratio isn't that much different to the 3.55.

exploring the options, the 3.55 gives me exactly what i want, with the speedo correct.

to use the 3.45s, I'd have to drop the tyre aspect ratio to achieve the same gains.

just looking for the easiest and cheapest option. it's only a work hack. i'm not keen to spend much on it
