Default E85 ethanol

Hey guys,

I own a 1997 VS Executive Commodore, to which it is running a stock as a rock V6 ecotec. Currently, i am looking to covert my car to E85 ethanol as it is cheaper than unleaded petrol and harnesses some significant performance benefits, but i am unsure on what has to be done to convert the engine to ethanol. So if someone could help me out by telling me what has to be done to the engine and how much it would approximately cost? It would be much appreciated. Finally, if i was to finally get it converted can you still run unleaded petrol in the car as well as E85 ethanol?

Cheers

Can't say I've seen E85 anywhere, where do you get it?

i read somewhere that theres a very few trials of it going on.

Waste of time on a daily, it might be cheaper but consumption goes up. Youll find the rubber parts in the fuel system wont like it, and the tune will be way off for efficient running as a stocker.

Personally, unless you were to build a specific engine to suit and associated fuel system I wouldnt bother, especially to "save" a few cents per litre.

Of course if your looking at FI or big comp and plan to run hard it might be of some benefit. Information on this fuel is thin in this country, you need to look at the yankee hot rodder sites although most info applies to carbs.

If your going to spend the money on a custom tune, please get before and after dyno sheets for us to have a gander

And if its purely to save a penny, gas conversion cheaper to setup (with johnny's rebate) cheaper fuel, more likelihood of an average monkey being able to tune and repair and your resale will be better.

Good luck with it, keep us informed if you go ahead with the e85...

Woot, my first post!

Anywho, E85 is everywhere where I am (redcliffe, north brisbane). My local BP and Shell have it....

I thought you should be fine to run E85 in an Ecotec? Probably wrong but

Yeah they've got it in Sydney too apparantly. Don't think I'd bother on a daily, gas would be the go, but definately E85 for high comp or forced induction applications, performance fuel of the future I reckon.. Well for now anyway
