Hi holdn8.
A VT V6 manual or auto does not have a speedo gear.
It uses a speed sensor mounted at the rear of the transmission.
If you change the differential gear ratio or the tyre overall diameter the only way to adjust is with a Tech I/II (Holden dealer diagnostic computer). If your car has been tuned using KalMaker then it can be adjusted with the KalMaker software.

The typical outside diameter for a 215/60/16 is 665mm

Are you sure the new tire is 245/45/16 or do you mean 245/45/17?

ok thanks pve...na its 245/45/16 a bit weird i know..its because they only had 45 series tyres that were 245 wide for the 16 inch wheels..so id have to take it to holden to fix the speedo problem? prob cost a fortune..

Your new tire diameter is 5.6% less, therefore at an indicated 100kmh you will be doing 95kmh.

You can work out a change like this
Tire width multiplied by apect ratio plus tire diameter equals overall diameter.
Original 215x(60/100)+(16x25.4)=664mm
New 245x(45/100)+(16x25.4)=627mm
((Old diameter - new diameter)/old diameter)x100 = %
((664-627)/664) = 5.6% reduction
