I was just thinking about this. Quite a few years ago I was told by an auto elec that alternators need the charge light to initialise the alternator. Don't know if it's the same as your ute but is the charge light working? I've attached the charging circuit section from an ellery's manual for your info. It's for a VT to VY.

I havnt checked anything else yet.. cheers for that doc.

okay, time for a vent.
**** **** **** **** ****
Okay, two fully charged batterys, both with 13v...
I hook them up, at 13v, start the car, drive 10klm into town.
come out from the sports shop, start the car, it shows signs of a flat battery
i drive to the bank, start the car after the bank, and struggles...
i go to the post office, turn it off.. walk in, come back, turn the car on.. major struggle.. the final burst, it turns over and off to trafalgar i go (about 40klm)
i get to trafalgar, turn it off.. than time for school
the ****ing thing wont turn over.. i roll start it, got about 300m down the road.. and the fuel guage starts to drop again, electric windows dead.. nothings working..
same as the other day..
i swing round, take it back to work and 15mins later the battery's are swapped, the 2nd battery is in and she starts first go..
i turn it off, she struggles to turn back on
i turn it off again, she is dead again.

three consecutive cranks and it flattens a battery.

WHAT THE **** IS GOING ON?

im so ****ing pissed

end rant

it sounds like something isn't turning off when the ignition is off draining the battery. i think my brothers old VN did it. i think he narrowed it down to the glove box light wasn't turning off. but yours is doing in a matter of minutes not hours but you do have a lot more things connected up to yours tho

when you stop the car and swithc it off, disconnect the battery to make sure nothing is draining it

how condident that the batteries are still good, if there rooted it wont hold charge and all sorts of other wierd stuff can happen

All you've stated was the charged battery's are 13v. and nothing else.
as we all have said, the cost of powering ignitions and computers fuel pumps and electronics. drains battery's, so unless you can say positively the alternator output is 13.8 - 14.4 volts, not the battery.... then your waisting your time.

as battery voltage means squat once the engine has started its the alternator and Regulators job from that moment on.

one battery is as new (4 months), and the other was there when i bought it, but looks pretty new.
so boss are you suggesting that my alternator isn't doing its job?
I havnt yet tested much.. once it's home tonight, i will get into it.

and if the alternator is sad, why has it (appeared to) flatten a fully charged battery after three or four consecutive starts of the car..

or am I missing something?

well, the old man just got home.. the car didnt make it out the driveway at work
it got pushed two doors upto the auto electrics.
apartly it is a common problem with the VS V6 alternators..
new alternator is going in tomorrow.
I pick the car back up tomorrow night on the way home from Melbourne.

if the problem is still there.. the auto electritions bill doesnt get paid..
