Default Spark Plug Conditions.

i know this question has been asked recently but i want to ask myself.

So anyway, i pulled teh spark plugs out of my car this morning and took photos of them to show. and i didn't quite like what i saw .

so can anyone tell me why they've come out like this after only 2 months and how i may be able to rectify it?

Its hard to see because of the lighting but is #1 a bit on the white side? Is it this or the crud that you are worried about?

P.S. where are the other two?

she'll have another two in about 3 years . well actually i'm just trying to learn how to diagnose spark plugs for my self as well. but yeah i am a little worried about the build up of crud considering not 6-8 weeks ago they were nice and clean.

Well since no-one else is replying I'll give you another opinion but I'm only a backyard mechanic not a real one

The crud buildup depends on the sort of driving you do I suppose, and its not as easy to read plugs with the crap fuel we get these days (all those pics in the workshop manuals are good but the colours don't come out the same). Don't forget to take it for a good blat before you pull them out too. Judging by the crap the cylinders could be a bit carboned up, simplest way to clean them out is with liberal application of the right foot. The plugs don't look too bad to me from the pics except maybe the first one is a little lean. You haven't done many kms in the 6-8 weeks as they still look reasonably new, a bit more driving will probably see better reading material.

okay, thanx for that. i am already pretty heavy with the right foot. especially today in the ranges . i would have done at least 3000-4000 Km in that two months

Fit a electronic dizzy and a CDI ignition MSD or Equivalent, you wont believe the the response.

You cant read plugs as we dont have Lead in fuel anymore. Unless your using Avgas or VP fuels or equivalent.

Driving around the suburb with ya foot on and off the pedal doesn't clean a motor. it carbons it. a weekend road trip somewhere that you can maintain a steady speed does.
Low engine speeds and accelerator pumps are nasty...

No2 photo looks like a lean condition with aluminum specks on the insulator nose.
The only way to get a true reading, is do a wide open throttle run and shut down before idle, then look at plugs.

well today i would have done about 300k's. most of it on open highway. it was only going up the ranges that i gave it the boot. loosing $2 everytime i break traction becomes an expensive exercise .

and those mods would be all well and handy if i actually owned a vehicle that had a distributor like a holden V8 or Ford inline 6. although i have been looking at the MSD Blaster coils packs.
