hello i wonder if someone can point me in the right direction, i have a VL commodore with the RB30 in it that is set up for dual fuel, i went to flick it over to petrol today and it stalled and restarted once i flicked back on to gas. when i pulled over and went to restart it i realised i couldnt hear the fuel pump humming away, i checked the fuse and even swapped over a relay to eliminate that possibilty so to my thinking i have obviously lost one of my fuel pumps, which would make sense as it had been making some funny noises the past couple of weeks. what i want to know is, seeming how i dont hear the pump humming away am i correct in presuming it must be the external pump that has died, my line of thinking is the internal pump would be muffled by the tank, wouldnt it? if i was to turn the ignition on and stick my head under the fuel tank should i be able to hear the internal pump making a noise or are they wired in series? if it is the external pump are there any other cars that have the same pump, i tried to pinch the pump off my mates wrecked R33 and was told they are completely different. all advice greatly appreciated
cheers adam

the fuel pumps were a common thing to shit them selves on the VL's, you can hear the intank pump slightly if you flick the ignition on but the outside high pressure pump is louder. They tend to make noises before they die. Im not sure what other car uses the same pumps, best bet would be to take the pumps out (pretty easy job) and just hook up 12 volts to each from a car battery. Do this a number of times to make sure the pump didnt just fluke the test and only worked once. If they both work then you test the power at the fuel pump connections with a multimeter, flick the ignition on and see if the connections are getting power. If that all works you obviously have an issue elsewhere
