Default el xr6

gday, 3 weeks to my bday and im getting a loan to buy myself a new car, looking at a neat el xr6 5spd, then just couple of mods like pod filter, CAI, stragz and zorst, lowered, roh 19's and a good stereo.
what i need to know is ive heard the earlier model 4.0 intechs (ea through au) like to blow heads/head gaskets. true? or is it just luck of the draw sort of thing.
any help would be greatly appreciated, cheers.
Davo.

ford straight 6s are notorious for it, as far as i know from XF-AU are the worst. They are the ones we have coming back thru the warranty dept the most anyway. Why, i dont know. Ive never been bothered delving into the technical side of those motors, but they are pretty straight forward motors, got me ****ed why ford couldnt get them right after so long.

all were prone pre AU, AU's were the best of the lot gasket wise as they are steel gaskets. I know when my head finally goes in my EF (192k never gone) I will be putting in an AU gasket!

ok i will be sure to get new head gasket just to be sure, and while im at it change few other gaskets.
btw what sort of steel are they and is there any protective coating on the steel? as we now have a laser cutter at work and would be cheaper and more interesting to do a complete homejob.
anything else i should look out for in that model? electrics wise?, wat kind of diff do they have? is it still borgy single spinner or do the xr6s have lsd?
gearbox - t5, i know basics and have heard there pretty good boxes, specially behind 6's.

cheers for the help guys, keep it coming. cheers, Davo.
