my dad's old VH ran a steroid-fed red 202. don't remember everything that he put on it but one thing was a yella terra head (?) as well as a 2.5" zorst and larger extractors, a nice lumpy cam, plenty of other mods i can't remember, he sold it 10 yrs ago. and it went farking hard.

too hard for the diff and gearbox apparently, keep in mind that if you don't treat the autos properly you'll go through what we did. give it a good reco and check the diff. cos the diff on ours (somehow) fell out the car, and the gears had more than a few teeth ripped off.

no more then 200 for a nice mildish cam package, straggaz and exhaust system is bout $1000 fitted brand new or buy second hand 400 or something and fit it yourself, plus $200 for a tune.
that will give you some nice power for a start.
cheers, Davo.

Here's some details on my 173 and costing.
Crow cam - $190
Crow valve springs - $75
JP oil pump - $50 (second hand but new)
flat top 186 pistons - $100 (second hand but new)
JP straight cut timing gears - $150 (I got them waay cheaper but thats wat they roughly go for)

And the following cost about $900 all up...they gave me a good deal and some got left off the bill.
- Bottom end fully balanced (crank, pistons, rods, flywheel, balancer)
- Flywheel shaved
- Bored out 130thou to make way for the new 186 flat tops
- Shaved the head (it's a high comp head)
- And lots of little things the guys did for me like put the bottom end 2gether, and sit my gear in the acid bath, putting cam bearings in etc etc.

All up I've spent about $2500 on the 173 (well now a 186).....and if I had to do it again I'd just buy a V8 to start with and go from there. I haven't even fired it yet and I've bought a 308 to start work on to take it's place haha.
