Default Fuel economy VX wagon

HI Guys,
I have a V6 2001 VX wagon that my wife has had for the last 4 years. She has always complained about the amount of fuel it uses but would never keep a record of milage and fuel for me to go on.

I have been driving it for the last 3 months and it is using 12.5-13 litres per 100klm. Easy driving mostly around 80 klm. The book says 11.5 city and down to 7 on the highway.

My first question is what sort of economy are people getting?

In the last 12 months it has had both crank and cam sensor replaced, injectors, 02 sensors, ignition leads and general servicing such as plugs, fuel filtre air filter. Everything has been reset and no codes showing. Car is running smooth. 210000 klm on clock.

Any other suggestions what may affect fuel economy?

We had a VXII Exec Wagon, from memory, it ran just below our GENIII statesman on the highway.. therefore 10.5-11
We sold ours with 180k

Driving into wind has a huge effect on economy.
Other things like that.

If fuel pressure and injector pulse width are within specs, pull the injectors out and have a look at them.

I think in reality thats about right, Ill give you my two examples to compare.

both these vehicles have been measured the same way,.. short trips, speed averaging 60 to 80 ks, always city/heavy trafic type driving, kids to school, and to my work, shopping etc.

my 355 coupe auto, 1530 kgs 19.5 lt per 100 ks

my 2.4 LT nissan 4x4 dual cab manual 1600 kgs EFI 15 lt per 100 ks

also I havnt monitored it closly but my wifes vn v6 will be similar to my nissan or a bit better.

Thanks guys,
I realy thought I would get better than that. My 1991 Deisel Landcruiser gets about about the same economy as I am getting from the VX and the Commodore has cost twice as much in repaires and maintenance over the last 2 years. That disturbs me.

i still recon it's a little high. i recon 12 should cut it. as i said, we were running 10.5-11, but that was 95% highway @ 110kph.

deisels are quite a bit better with economy than petrols are on average thou, people have told me that they use about 8 litres per 100 ks out of their turbo and non turbo deisels , in most cases almost twice better than my 2.4 petrol navara.
