Default Single Turbo 202 EFI

Has anyone thought of building a commodore like this, would it achieve respectable times?

VK Berlina
3.3ltr 202 efi worked with head, cam, flatop pistions and 9,0:! compression
Garrett single turbo system running 10psi
Turbosmart blow off valve
Front mounted intercooler
Strengthened 3-speed trimatic with a stage 2 shift kit and a 2500rpm stall convertor
Rebuilt VL turbo diff with 3.73:1 gears
15x7" Pursuit rims with 225's
Pacmaker extractors with a single 3" system

What are your thoughts on this car?

Regards.

all sounds good accept 9-1 compression
and you should go for a 500hp t3t4 internal gate turbo then will run some good times maybe 12s

Drop the comp to 8:1 or lower, crank the boost up to 18-20psi, convert it to run a specific turbo roller cam, go at least 1.72 a/r on the turbo exhaust housing to minimise back pressure.... and hang on!

Will this setup give the VL turbo's a run for there money, if this a cost effective car compared to the VL's?

Regards.

It will give street VLs a real run but ultimately the block and crank are stronger in the Nissan engine so ultimate power potential is higher with the Nissan engine. A streetable 500hp at the flywheel is definately achievable though from the 202, I used to get 380hp at the rear wheels with only 16psi and 6000rpm (went to 22psi and 8000rpm....)

But if you wanted real bang for your buck you can't go past a Vl turbo......in my opinion, the rb30et has it all over the 202. Its strength in stock form is a major advantage.

and is it cost effective?

well, considering the amount of workshops who specialise in go fast vlt's, then no not really..
you can get a vlt engine kit for around $7000 that will pull 12's. maybe less..
talk to PET although they're trying to break away from the VLT market, they've got 9second vlt's that run every weekend without fail. built strong!

moved to aussie V6 section

also i have seen a turbo 202 torana in a street machine mag that had like 300+rwhp and to get that much it had a price list of a rough cost if u can find someone to do the work and it wasnt cheap at all

If you want turbo why not buy a RB30DET or something they arent that expensive and if you are puttin it into a car with a stock 202 then the RB30 will feel like a rocket ship to comparison

I'm into my v8's more, what would be the best bang for you buck (turbo or super)?

I'm talking about a stock internal (for now) 304 efi with 170,000km on the clock but still running sweet.

Regards.

If your gunna add aspiration of any kind to an older 202 with stock internals then shit is gunna be getting bent and ****ed up left right and centre. Best bang for buck for a V8 (or a 6 at that matter) is gunna be a supercharger set up. Yes, turbos will decimate all, but god damn they come with a heavy price tag. But yeah, your gunna have to beef up your running gear a tad to prevent stuff breaking on you.
