when we done mine we used 1500 straight up and had a garden hose on a light trickle going to whole time to wash away any grit.
then same was done again to final coat of clear before being buffed silly. as said if your panels are striahgt u want a dull effect with no shiny spots.reason for going fine paper is u dont want scratches
