Default Can a T700 be made to cruise in top at 60ks?

G'day
I started this question elsewhere and was directed here: I've a T700 with a stage two shift kit. When it was initially set up, Trans Man said "here you go, this is pretty right, but you can adjust it a bit if you are careful". Fine. I adjusted the crappy chrome-on-chrome cable bracket so the car dropped neatly into fourth (yes, I know it's an overdrive) at 60kph under very light throttle. It rumbled along at 1250 revs, Everyone Happy.
Lovely. It was great up the hill I live on, was perfect in every way until the bracket slipped out of adjustment and I couldn't get it right again. By the time I got it to Trans Man next day, $800+ of burnt clutches.
Now he's reset it to the standard adjustment, so the car whines along at 1850 rpm (3:36 diff) giving me the sh!ts. If it was a manual, someone would slap the driver in the back of the head until he shifted up.
The engine is getting on for 6 litres - it was happy @ 1250; forget suggesting it was labouring, it seems to be using a bit more fuel at 1850, which bears that out.
PLEASE HELP. If I wanted a car which told me how to drive, I'd use the wife's prius. KNEW I should have found a manual box, but I'm stuck with this auto, so any help gratefully accepted!
