I have checked and its the same spigot for a crash box and a all synchro box.
I must have been thinking about the celica spigot which has a smaller id.
It would be less work to swap to auto for sure but you will still need to get a HG column and linkages if you intend to run a trimatic with the column shift.
You will also need a auto peddle and the speedo cable, gearbox crossmember and tail shaft I mentioned above and also a vac outlet for the manifold for the vac modulator.
Also you will need the auto spigot as well.
The next problem you will have to sort out is the kickdown side of things.
If you get HG trimatic it will have a cable kick down and you will need to get a auto accelerator cross shaft and associated brackets etc.
If you use a HQ on trimatic they are a electric kickdown and you will have to make up some sort of set up to make that work.
